// TRAVEL ADVICE - WHICH TENT - HIKING & TREKKING
TENT SIZE RECOMMENDATION FOR HIKING & TREKKING
Deciding on the right size tent for your adventure
As you will physically be carrying your travel gear and have limited luggage, you will ideally be looking for a backpacking tent which is compact and lightweight. If you’re travelling in a larger party it’s always an idea to spilt up the tent and accessories between you.
No of People
Tent Size Recommendation
1 Person Tent or an Ultralight 2 Person Tent
2 Person Tent (Ideally with Vestibule) or 3 Person Tent
4 Person Tent (Ideally with Vestibules) or 5 Person Tent
5 Person Tent (Ideally with large Vestibules)
For this form of travel we would recommend splitting the party into smaller groups and having more than one tent. If you have a base camp you plan to keep returning to, you can always set up a more permanent, larger tent for 5 persons +.
WHICH SEASON TENT FOR HIKING & TREKKING
A relaxing space to keep you warm and dry
Depending on the location and time of year you’re looking at trekking and hiking can ultimately affect which seasoned tent would be ideal for you. A 3 Seasoned tent would be more than suitable for temperate weather systems but for more extreme weather conditions, including heavy snow, high winds and extreme wet weather a 4 season tent would be more suitable.
WHICH STYLE TENT FOR HIKING & TREKKING
Deciding on the right style tent for your adventure
Optimised Symmetrical Geometric, Geodesic, Semi-geodesic and dome style tents are among the most sought after tent shape for this kind of adventure. An Optimised Symmetrical Geometric / Geodesic / Semi-geodesic tent shape offer good strength and stability, with their extra poles and multiple cross overs as well as plentiful guys – great for camping in exposed areas! Good head height and a spacious interior feeling gives a relaxing and comfortable camping experience. Normally two walled, in warmer weathers you can remove your fly sheet to keep cool.
A dome shaped tent, although not as tough as the above designs, is more often than not lighter in weight and offers a great stability and easy pitching.
